Photos of Commemoration of Battle of Cowpens  January 19, 2008

Once again, the commemoration at Cowpens was both wet and very cold.  Due to the rain, the wreath laying ceremony was conducted at the visitor's center monument instead of at the monument in the battlefield. Both participants and spectators were glad that it went quickly. After attending this event for many years, we have a better appreciation of what the conditions probably were during the actual battle.  Good thing the Patriots didn't stay home due to bad weather as this was a turning point in the Revolution.

Color Guard lined up in Spartanburg at the Daniel Morgan statue just as a cold rain began. The color Guard waited for the ceremony to begin. Sam Powell and wife Karen swap belongings before the ceremony.
Ceremonies in Spartanburg were short, then everyone retreated to local restaurants for lunch and conversation. The rain picked up and the temps cooled as the ceremonies at Cowpens began. Rain dripped from the hats of guardsmen as they stood at attention during the wreath laying at Cowpens.
Larry presented for the Collins chapter.  Each presenter tipped rain from their hats. The cold, wet Color Guard was dismissed.
