Mechanics are challenging fun in underwater designs as your plant material will want to float to the top!  Bring pinholders (frogs), pebbles or marbles, stick-um, decorative wire, fisherman's weights.

Plastic forms can be used in your underwater designs: toys, packaging, grids, straws, etc.

Containers - glass, tall, cylindrical works well for underwater designs.  You may want to bring more than one container.  You may want to use a floral frog (pinholder) in an inconspicuous dish that will sit on top of your glass container and continue the design above the underwater part.

Plant Material -  Plant material should be sturdy.  Flowers with a strong constitution will hold up best underwater which is why tropical flowers are often chosen.  Iris, chrysanthemums, roses and lilies also seem to enjoy being submerged.

Water - for practice,  tap water is sufficient.  If competing in a flower show, distilled water is recommended to prevent it from becoming cloudy.  Be sure utensils, plant material and container are all clean to prevent any debris from spoiling your design.

Needlepoint -  Also called a frog, or a pinholder
